I personally like bellow zero a little more than the original subnautica for a few reasons but i would have loved to see your version of the story and i feel like there was not enough of sam's story and i was not emotionally attached to her and her story, and i feel like the prawn suit was not utilized enough but I feel maybe a 3rd game would be good, I just really want to see the achitects home world and see if they are alive and how they saurvived and what they are duing maybe in a seperate game with the same story but i really wanty to see more from the subnautica story and i want to see more games from the devs

So what the heck was the point of the frozen leviathan? It didn't even have a place in the story really. Just finished myself and watched this series. Disappointed in how it got wrapped up. Wish there was more.

Subnautica was my favorite series by far. The wonder and the way they integrated sound to scare the crap out of you. But, this one didnt have the escalated threat fear. From early crash fish and stalkers to electric jellyfish up to leviathans. Then to finish you had to pass a sea dragon shooting fire! That was very well executed but this one doesn't really have a natural progression. The place you went last was my first stop.

My personal thought is if there is a next game you get to play as the original guy because when he flies off the architects nab him then you meet up with this girl and Alan, or you start of as this girl with Alan and find the guy etc. there is a lot of different ways it can go from here. But I mean it's a stupid idea but cool to me.

I like the subnautica series!! But I agree that a story like you described would be more interesting than the one that was made. It isnt bad but seems like its missing something...maybe the danger of trying to find out what happened and someone trying to stop you or even kill you. Overall the game is really cool and the ending was a blast indeed with the Allan stuff!!

I want a sequel that actually focuses on the Architects. Why did they originally go to the planet 4546B or whatever (sorry, I have the attention span of a pickle 🤣) and are they still alive besides Al-an? If so, how will they react to his return? Will they see Robin as a threat? A lot is unanswered, so I hope they continue with that part of the story. I honestly didn't really like this game. Yes, the devs worked really hard, but it was just bland. Imo the way they wrote Sam's story was pointless and emotionless. It was pretty poorly done. I would have LOVED to see the story written the way Jack described it. That way you'll actually feel connected to Sam rather than just "oh, she's dead, that's sad." Also, her death was totally uninteresting, and the way the plot was building up made it seem like Altera was going to play a bigger role and then it just...wasn't. There was no plot twist, so Sam's part of the story was very unsatisfying to me. Another thing I didn't like was the constant music. Rarely did you hear any of the creatures or ambiance like you would in the first Subnautica. It made it a lot less immersive, HOWEVER, the music that was used wasn't bad. There were times it was really annoying to me, but I'm sure there's a setting where you can turn the music off if it's something you don't like. I also didn't like how there wasn't a whole lot of diversity in creatures or biomes really. Nothing really stood out, except that one really big reef jellyfish thing. Overall, the game was kind of boring, BUT a lot of hard work went into it, and if there's a sequel coming, there might have been a reason why this one was so bland. Sorta like movies or books. First one is good to get you hooked. The ones in the middle are just interesting enough to hold your interest until you get to the end. I know that was a lot of complaining, but I see it more as constructive criticism. The devs for this game worked extremely hard, and there's definitely good things about the game. The graphics of the water are outstanding. The voice acting was okay, I also prefer the English accents, but that's just a personal preference, the voice actors themselves did an amazing job. I hope they continue with the franchise. There's a lot of potential.

This game literally ended way too quickly for me tbh ..... the og Subnatica had way more game play (at least 8hrs more of it ) and there was a lot of that you needed to do before you reach the ending ..... but here there were just two stories that you had to complete .... and Jack said ..... This was an amazing game with actual interactions with people and all that .... but it just did not have the thrill and the fun I had in the first game

This game (to me) highlights the problem with games that release early access versions. Cause I watched maybe 1 part of a playthrough of an Early Access version of this game, and I enjoyed the heck out of it. But if you've played a couple iterations of the game, you come into with expectations, or you miss things because you think you remember them from a previous version. Or in this game they completely changed the story for the full release, so if you'd played a few of the Early Access versions, you had expectations of what the story was going to be and now you're a bit let down.

It’s weird cause Subnautica was a series of Jacks I first started watching as I was studying to become a game designer, and now, years later, I get to experience this let’s play as one. So, I guess in this comment I get to provide my thoughts and insights as… a professional, I guess haha. So, first things first, I handily agree that the old start and premise was significantly better. The initial world building of showing you as an altera worker, the storm (I was a big fan of the night time one, the atmosphere was palpable) and finally and most importantly, your escape by diving into the ocean. It perfectly encapsulates what the game is all about. You might journey on the surface briefly but at the end of the day, you progress by diving into the abyss. There the chaos of the storm turns to calm. The bioluminescence lights the way and you begin to swim to safety. But once again, your peace is short lived as your breath only holds out for so long. It’s taught you that this is one of the most important mechanics of the game, navigating through water to progress, and the resource it uses as well as the intuitive method of refilling it (surfacing). All in all, the new intro is as close to a carbon copy of the first game as you could get. A pod crash lands. The set piece is far more dull, and provides little to no direction and has already completed before attempting to teach you anything. It’s much weaker. Moving on from that we have the story, which as Jack put into words, “feels like I’m the side character in other peoples story”. In games, you scarcely have “real” choices, they’re all ones that have been calculated and accommodated for by the devs, but it’s our job to make you FEEL like it. And Sub Zero fails in this manner. The closest it gets is you building the jammer, as it feels like you’ve come up with a solution to solve a problem (the tower being the obstacle) but even then, it’s a thin veil. Moving on from the beginning, the general environment design wasn’t as well defined either. Navigation wasn’t as clear and many of the interesting and exciting areas of the map had very little to offer, as Jack noted on multiple occasions, feeling excitement for having found a secret area only to be rewarded with resources that he had a wealth of. There were many blueprints he never completed or came close to even finding during his play through, and hiding completed versions of them in these locations would have been an easy and entertaining fix. Imagine sending your little spy penguin into a crevice to look for resources and finding a misplaced pulse rifle that Parvan had mentioned losing when running from some ice worms. Dozens of opportunities like this were missed with their most interesting areas and it was a consistent problem through the whole game. Additionally, certain bases are only mentioned in the map to visit, and should have been stated to the player outside of UI. That progression information was far too important to leave just there. Maybe there were some that Jack or I missed like that, but it’s not like he wasn’t exploring a lot, he should have found more exciting things on his travels than he did and the important things should have been more clearly connected, like how the first game clearly managed it’s biomes as well as what they contained. Speaking of design, I found the creatures to be somewhat lacking. Sub Zero never has that moment like Subnautica did with the Sea Dragon. That epic moment of “oh god, oh god look at that thing!” Beyond the frozen (and very dead) leviathan. Jack also mentioned how much he wanted to see it move and come back to life, and that would have been exciting, so would a set piece of seeing one on the ice shelf consume an ice worm as it’s chasing you, just this entity on the shelf, waiting in a snowstorm in case you get lost. Plenty of options. There might be exciting creatures but none that you inevitably have to cross and none as well situated as in the first title. The original premise of your sister being alive offered significantly more options, like Jack said, it’s just interesting to have another character to talk to. Having a cast instead of binary interactions. Marguerit is neat and all but her interactions with the player are both limited and frankly kind of pointless. She gives the player minor hints for how they can progress and offers some fruits that many players won’t bother or care with. The tension between your sisters goals and Al-An’s and the secret you are keeping, and the possibility of letting the player choose what data or resources to send to your sister and having these player moments influence the story and what happens to you and your sister was a huge missed opportunity for some interesting player motivation. You find the only node of a valuable resource that would let you make an important part of Al-An’s body and without it, he will be somewhat stunted, but Sam needs it in order to build something to protect herself from Altera. Which do you prioritise, how do you handle making that choice? Things like that would have been not only entertaining to posit but also added a layer of replay ability that this game just doesn’t have. It could have lead to so many things. Being able to influence another characters actions is a clear way to give the player a sense of agency and Sub Zero threw its away in favour of a simpler plot and pace. Frankly, with the way it currently works, it easily could have been linear, that after you resolve your sisters plotline, the ice shelf breaks as it’s seen that some of those pustules were actually load bearing and behind there is the Al-An cube and you solve it from there. Having the much simpler and weaker plot go on at the same time doesn’t really help the game in any way apart from give you more “time” with Al-An and it only needs that because of the break neck pace it chose to go with. The original premise works much better than any of these and I’d be curious to hear why they changed it at all. So all in all, I think as a game, it’s weaker on most fronts than the first title. I enjoy the fact that not every person was dead and a data pad to find but the character interactions weren’t that different than a fancy datapad in terms of relevance to your own choices. What’s more confusing is, from every angle I can see, they HAD a better game in production before this rewrite occurred, and a few of the lessons they so expertly taught the world with the first title are gobsmackingly missing in this sequel. It’s full of redundancies and half finished ideas and I think it’d be best summarised by noting this. Sub Zero, by it’s own name, is supposed to be about the Arctic and the frosty cold nature, battling the elements and the inhospitable environment. How often did heat matter? How often are you in danger? How well did it deliver on its promised fantasy? In my opinion, fine enough, but not nearly close to as well as it could have. Thanks for reading! I’m sure you all have your own opinions as well and the game is far from bad! It’s still well made and the devs did a great job. Design is subjective and at the end of the day, if the players like something, it’s correct. I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
